Artur Arepyev

3D Generalist

One thing I’ve learned over the years is that clients trust my ability to deliver, even under tight deadlines. I’ve had the opportunity to work on set for a Hollywood feature film and contribute to an Apple TV+ series, which were both incredible experiences that taught me how to thrive in fast-paced environments. Those projects, along with my freelance work, have really helped me hone my skills and build a solid reputation in the industry.

But it’s not just about the past – I’m really keen on the future of VFX, especially with all the exciting possibilities that AI brings. I’ve been diving deep into AI-driven video and image generation, even developing some of my own tools, and it’s gotten the attention of a few companies already. I truly believe this kind of tech can revolutionize our workflows, and I’d love to explore how we could use it to boost efficiency and creativity at.

The Distinguished Gentleman is strolling through the city under the influence.

I've been working on a stylized character design where certain features are deliberately exaggerated. One of the challenges I encountered was creating a realistic skin material using the Principled BSDF shader - the subsurface scattering often ended up looking too plastic. After some research on various forums, I discovered a clever solution.

A fellow user suggested applying a subsurface scattering value of 1 for the skin. After experimenting and fine-tuning several parameters, I achieved a much more authentic look.

Once I finished sculpting the character, I envisioned a scene reminiscent of "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas," with the character cruising through the city in a car, much like Johnny Depp's iconic portrayal.

Finally, I added the finishing touches in DaVinci Resolve, oversaturating the colors for a fuzzy, dreamlike effect and incorporating halation along with lens reflections and distortion to complete the look.

I’ve been interested in finding ways to integrate AI into my creative process pipeline. One approach I’ve looked into is using AI-generated images as a reference or concept art. However, if the final piece looks too similar to the original AI image, you risk ending up with that β€œMidjourney” style, which has already become somewhat generic, since many AI enthusiasts produce images that look alike.

Ideally, I recommend experimenting heavily with the AI-generated image -maybe even training your own datasets - to achieve a truly unique look. The goal isn’t to replace every step of the creative process with AI, typing a few prompts into Kling AI and calling it a day. Instead, the aim is to create something that reflects your personal style and ideas.

Personally, I prefer retaining ultimate control by working in 3D. While it’s not as straightforward as letting AI handle everything, it allows me to shape the image exactly how I want and infuse my style in every step, resulting in something original.

At the end of the day, these tools are just that - tools. People don’t really connect with art produced by a machine; they connect with the human behind it.
Unreal Engine Cinematic Breakdown
I always loved the stunning SFX in Tarantino's films, especially those epic bullet hits where blood explodes into these massive, theatrical splatters. While you can make blood effects look realistic, there's something way more satisfying about going over the top with it.
